How Time to Decimal Conversion Works (Mathematical Method)
Our engine parses base-60 sexagesimal temporal records and transforms them into standardized base-10 IEEE-754 floating-point decimal hours with configurable precision.
Decimal Hours = Hours + (Minutes ÷ 60) + (Seconds ÷ 3600)
Variable Isolation & Baseline Parsing
Extract whole hours (H), minutes (M), and seconds (S) from raw input fields or timecard shift timestamps.
Base-60 to Base-10 Arithmetic Division
Divide minutes by 60 (M ÷ 60) and seconds by 3600 (S ÷ 3600) to isolate exact fractional hour components.
Summation & Precision Rounding
Sum the integer hours and fractional components: Decimal Hours = H + (M ÷ 60) + (S ÷ 3600), formatting to 2 decimal places for payroll and 4 decimal places for accounting ledgers.
Financial Multiplication & Gross Wage Estimation
Multiply total decimal hours by the billable hourly wage rate to compute gross employee compensation or freelance invoice totals.
